Something that I hate, and I’ve probably said before, about people. Just because we’re ‘cool’ doesn’t mean I work for free, and just because you’re getting a deal, doesn’t mean I need to lose money in the process.
I fell like a lot people around me take advantage of my ‘talent’ (it’s not really talent, its hours, and days, and years of practice. I wasn’t born with, and didn’t just obtain knowledge of color theory, I spent a lot of time learning and teaching myself how to use color). People ask me (more like tell) “Oh you should design this for me”. 90% of the time when I hear that it means they just want me to do it. They expect I’m going to sit down for a few hours (a lot of times a lot longer) and draw up that eagle, or curvy design, and just give it to them. Don’t kids realize that drawing something off the top of my head, or combining a series of pictures together takes time? The last painting I did took nearly six hours to plan out, draw up, and color in, and it was a basic design. A full on 16x20” painting could take hours or days to complete.
Aside from the time and energy that goes into making something, there are all the supplies. That giant canvas you want the Scarface painting on was $30, not to mention the 1/4 tube of $8 paint I had to use (of each color), and then you want me to just give it up for free. Oh oh oh, and of course if the person does want to help me out, they always cover a little less than the supply cost.
And lets not forget to mention all the custom pieces that I’ve done that never end up being purchased or claimed.
